You’ve got all of these big dreams to travel but you don’t have the big budget so a job it is. Here are some top jobs that can make your dream a reality. Enjoy!

1. Webmaster

Who wouldn’t want to be a master of the web? A webmaster manages all aspects of a website.

If you’re getting paid to do this then it’s likely a small business that is paying you to do this. There are plenty of businesses you can start with but why not start in your own backyard?

Talk to some local business owners before you take off on your traveling quest and see if they’d like you to take care of their website so they have one less thing on their plates.

2. Graphic Designer

You might work as a graphic designer for a firm or you might work directly with clients.

3. Web Developer

Web developers are not the same as graphic designers or website designers. Web developers know how to code and often work for big companies making sure everything goes well in the background.

4. Affiliate Marketer

How would you like to get paid to sell other people’s stuff? Well, that is exactly what an affiliate marketer does.

You find an affiliate program of a product you want to promote. The program gives you a unique link or a code to track the sales you bring in and you get the agreed-upon percentage.

You may drive traffic to offers through various methods such as SEO, social media or paid advertising. Some affiliate programs have rules about the methods you’re allowed to use to promote their offers.

Wondering if the affiliate marketing front is still a good decision? When you look at the over 2 billion people on social media alone — you tell me? Do you think you could sell a thing or two?

What Is a Digital Nomad?

Before we get into this article, let’s go over what a digital nomad is. Some people may have different definitions but this is what I am talking about in this article –

What Is a Digital Nomad?: A person that doesn’t need to be in one place to support themselves financially. They work online in some capacity hence the digital. They usually travel more than half of the year hence the nomad part of digital nomad.

I Am a Digital Nomad – A Brief Story of How I Got Here

By popular demand, here’s a little bit of backstory on how I became a digital nomad. I’ll also share some things that it’s done for me. 🙂

So, I thought that the American dream was going to be what I wanted. The big house, fancy cars and plenty of work work work to pay for it.

Driving the Mercedes and living in a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom house with a jacuzzi tub – yeah boi. Then I started realizing that I was super stressed. Always worrying about money.

Something was always breaking. More money going out. It was a pain.

I felt trapped in the big house and the American dream was very quickly the American nightmare 🙁

Since I did all of my work online I got to thinking about being able to travel and show my kids all kinds of places and do a bunch of cool things. As a kid my parents had me living the RV lifestyle from age 5 to 7.

Most of the time we would go from Pennsylvania to see my Mom’s side of the family, Tennessee to see my Dad’s side of the family and Florida to see friends. It was pretty awesome but I did miss my friends in each of these places – and there was NO Facebook video chatting! :-O

Deciding to Hit the Road in the RV

We were renting to own the house we were living in and the landlord decided he didn’t want to fix the gaping hole in the roof and mold and other problems it caused. We got out of our lease and got the biggest RV we could afford at that point and that was the 18 foot Wolf Pup we lived in for a year.

That winter was hella hard. My online work wasn’t panning out and if it hadn’t been for my brother and a couple of very dear friends we were in business with that helped us – yeah… it wouldn’t have been good.

We made our way across the US even though we were broke as – you know what and in that first year we visited 17 states.

After a very very very hard first year financially we ended up shutting down our boat detailing business. We wanted to full-time nomad and our business partners had bought a farm which is now totally rocking and cool!

Fast forward to where we are now and our online businesses are doing well and we aren’t eating spaghetti every night. Sheesh, that was rough. Okay. Maybe not every night but there were some really tough times. lol

I wanted to give up so many times because we were far from people we knew and it was scary but we just kept going.

I wouldn’t trade any of those times and I have learned that living in the moment is a must. Being thankful in the lean years and the years of plenty.

That’s how we started our full-time RV lifestyle. I plan on writing a book and sharing more struggles and triumphs navigating the nomad lifestyle and I hope our story inspires you to go for it even before you have it all figured out. 😉

How to Become a Digital Nomad Even If You Are Clueless

We all have to start somewhere. But where? It can be overwhelming thinking about uprooting your life and having to figure out where you’re going to live, how you’re going to support yourself and how it is going to feel going places you’ve never been.

Before you strike out as a digital nomad, you need to make sure that you have a plan for generating income, where you’re going to live and more.

If you can get prepared before you go, it will make it a lot easier and the below tips can help you. Don’t let anything stop you if this is what your dream is because we are not promised tomorrow.

Here is some important information you need before you get at it.

Popular Countries to Live in as a Digital Nomad

If you want to move out of the USA, here are some of the most common countries to live in as a digital nomad.

  • Thailand
  • Vietnam
  • Spain
  • Hungary
  • Germany
  • Costa Rica
  • Columbia

The above places aren’t that expensive to live and they are freaking amazing. I have a lot of friends that live the digital nomad lifestyle in these places.

Some people are afraid to travel to these places because of news and different things but if you know where to go – you’ll be perfectly fine. I would recommend talking to some people that have moved from the US to these areas so you can get a true idea of where you should go.

What if I want to stay in the USA?

If you’re like me and have a ton of kids and don’t feel like taking them across the world then you might choose to stay in the USA.

We full-time RV with our family currently. It may change later – who knows!

From Nov 2017 until now (April 2019) we have been to/through 17 states in the US. We learned so many things and realized that some stereotypes are not so true.

If you want to stay in the US, you can full-time RV, if you don’t have a bunch of pets and kids then Airbnb is a good option. You may even want to do resort life.

There are lots of options. The biggest challenge is what type of work you can do when you’re on the road or in the air. Here are some of the best types of jobs/work that you can do while on the road so you can get paid and live a lifestyle that you love.

Whether you choose to build a business on the road or work a traditional job remotely – it is possible.

Common Jobs of a Digital Nomad

Here are some common jobs/businesses that digital nomads have. You can often get started with little to no experience. You might have to start out with low pay in the beginning until you get some experience – but it’s still amazing.

  • Writer – You can become a writer online through various sites. The site that I started on is called UpWork. It’s a marketplace where people can find you as a writer and hire you from anywhere in the world.

  • Website Designer – If you’re good at design (I am not, lol) then you can make some good cash from anywhere by helping people get their sites to how they want them to look.

  • Web Developer – A web developer helps the backend of sites, apps, etc. Oftentimes web developer and web designers work hand in hand.

  • Coach – Did you do something or achieve something in your life that other people want to do? You can become a coach and coach people from anywhere in the world.

  • Course Creator – Online learning is booming. There are many sites that offer hundreds of hours of learning. While this is true, if people have a relationship with YOU then they often want to buy a course and learn from you. Create away. Use sites like Kajabi and Teachable to help you deliver your work. And use tools like GetResponse to keep them coming back.

  • Lifestyle / Travel Blogger – If you’re going to be traveling around, you might as well share it with the world, right? My family and I are slow travelers. We usually only move every 2-3 weeks. What Is a Topic Cluster? And Are Topic Clusters Really Good for SEO?

woman standing at blue wall

Question: What is a topic cluster?

Answer: To put it as simply as possible – a topic cluster is a group of posts or pages that are closely related to each other.

Ready to learn more about topic clusters and if they are really good for SEO? Continue reading and I’ll give you the low down on the issue.

What the “Experts” Are Saying About “What is a Topic Cluster?”

Now – calm down because I know you’re going to see some of your favorite SEO in the list of quotes below and you’re going to wonder why experts are in quotes.

It’s purely because – what is an expert anyway? lol These are the people that most people believe know what the heck they’re talking about in this arena – mkay? 😉

Thoughtful & Helpful

Mimi An posted on Hubspot that topic clusters are a more thoughtful and helpful arrangement.

I do have to say this is definitely true.

Since Google is very much about user experience, the fact that topic clusters help with UX is enough to see they are going to help your website in one way or another. We all know that UX signals have some sort of pull in the search engines.

Shared Topics & Subtopics

Stephen Jeske from MarketMuse calls topic clusters content that has a shared topic and shared subtopics.

Truthfully, I think this makes a little more sense and is a more helpful definition of topic clusters.

It’s like everything about dogs and to go even deeper everything about show dogs or hunting dogs. Obviously, the show dogs and the hunting dogs are the subtopics. The site doesn’t have the overarching topic of pets or the dogs could be the subtopic and the show dogs could be the sub-subtopic.

The more helpful and in-depth your site is regarding the content you provide, the more helpful it will be to its user as long as your site navigation is easy to use.

Topic Clusters – A Part of the SEO Shift

Mariah Anderson posted on Impactbnd that topic clusters are part of the shift in SEO due to voice search and other developments.

RIGHT ON Mariah. B-)

Long gone are the days of keyword stuffing your content full of your primary keyword over and over again in hopes that you would get a top ranking in the SERPs. Now if you want that first-page ranking – you’re going to have to work for it.

Topic clusters are the smartest way to be working your way to the top of the SERPs.

The CoSchedule blog hints that topic clusters are the future of SEO and content strategy. If these titans haven’t convinced you by now that topic clusters are a good idea for your content marketing and SEO strategy – you might be in the wrong place.

If you want to learn more about topic clusters and how to create them — keep reading.

How to Create Topic Clusters

If you’ve been blogging for any length of time, you likely have enough content to create a topic cluster. You just need to do some restructuring. If you don’t have any blog content then don’t worry about it because you can start without any bad habits.

The idea is to create a massive pillar page. This pillar page is going to be a Goliath of a page that provides massive value. This post is usually going to be at least 2,000 words long and I have seen many pillar posts that have gone much deeper than 2,000 words.

Your goal with a pillar page is to give in-depth information on the topic as well as the overall eagle’s nest view. When people leave this page – they should have a pretty good idea about the topic.

Once you have your pillar page created it is time to move on to the cluster content. Remember those subtopics I was talking about above with Mariah and those other folks? Okay – now it is time to figure out what subtopics you’re going to go more in-depth on in other posts.

These blog posts only need to be 500 or more words long. Once you get these posts completed, you want to link them back to your pillar page content. Let’s say that I have a pillar post about how to get traffic to your website. (I do)

What do I do now?

I then create closely related content that can link back to this page and be helpful to the reader. Chances are if you’re interested in learning about topic clusters then you want to learn how to get traffic to your website. The post gives you 11 expert tips and is massively valuable.

The more high-quality posts that I interlink (point) to this page, the more Google and other search engines get an idea about what this page is all about. You can do the same for your website with the topics you’re creating.

Now that you know your answer to “What is a topic cluster?” – What do you do when you need great content and you simply don’t have the time to create it? No worries.

I’m a content and digital marketing strategist and can help you with your content strategy as well as full content creation processes. Simply contact me today and we can work out a plan to set up your topic clusters and overall content strategy.

How to Be Confident 9 Tips to Live a Better Life

woman happily meeting other people

If you aren’t a confident person – you need to learn how to be confident like… right away.

Confident people act differently and live a better life.

Instead of spending time doing things they don’t want to do and feeling guilty when they don’t – they’re busy living their best life.

Wouldn’t it be nice to feel good about what you do? Wouldn’t it feel amazing to get love from the inside instead of always worrying about pleasing others? Use these below tips to live a better life.

Hello, I am Jessica and I am a recovering people pleaser.

Before my Mom died in 2012, I was not a people pleaser. I always knew I had my Mom and her life.

When she died – it rocked my world. It rocked my confidence.

I gained and maintained 50 lbs pounds and am just working that off almost seven years later as I’ve got my rock-solid confidence back.

Since I “lost” my confidence and got it back – I decided I would share how to be confident with you too.

Contents

What You Have to Know About How to Be Confident

First off – YES. It is important to be confident.

And yes, you should keep reading this post.

Confidence will change your life. Instead of second-guessing every action you make, you will walk forward knowing that what you do will all work out.

Even if you fall. Even if you lose some people along the way. Even if you get hurt – it’s aiight. 😉

Live a Better Life with These 9 Tips

So, here you go. Here are the tips so pay attention. <3

1. Do Something You’ve Always Wanted To

How many things do you have on your “bucket list.”

For beep’s sake – why do you want a bucket list?

Why not change that in for a live list?

I’m sorry/not sorry but I do NOT want to do anything on my bucket list. I do not plan on kicking the bucket any time soon.

Find things that you want to do and go for it. Don’t wait until tomorrow, next week or next month. At least put the plans into action.

Generate the extra money that you need to do it. Figure out how is going with you (if anyone.) Pack your bags.

Whatever it is that you’ve always wanted to do – do it. Show yourself that your dreams aren’t just dreams – they are plans!

2. Push Beyond Your Personal Limitations

We often don’t even realize that we’re limiting ourselves. We say that we want something and we immediately stop ourselves from doing it/having it, etc.

Why?

Because where we are now is safe. Where we are now is easy. We can hide behind what we know.

Where we are, what we are doing and who we are with is safe.

We know the surroundings, what know how to do what we’re doing and the people around us at least tolerate us and some even like or love us!

Why leave? Why do something different?

Because your soul is freaking dying every time you tell it no because you’re a chicken shit! That’s freakin’ why. What the hell?

3. Learn a New Skill

Learning a new skill allows us to have more to offer the world. The more value we can offer to the world marketplace the easier it is to be confident.

If one job isn’t working out, we always have something else we can offer. Having a back up doesn’t mean that you don’t believe in your other job or that you’re dividing your focus too much.

Pick something that you can enjoy so while you’re learning you don’t feel like it’s a chore. You’re learning a new skill, and you’re enjoying it. Have at it.

4. Become a Master

What do you already do? Whatever you’re doing, you can become a master at it.

When you become a master – you become the go-to source. People want to hire you, pick your brain and figure out ways to be valuable so they can hang out bc you’re cool.

While some experts say it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert, it may not be as much as all of that. What if you could become a rockstar in 20 hours of committed focus? Give it a shot.

5. Use Failures as Stepping Stones

Oh, gawd… the all terrifying failures.

I mean – who likes to fall on their face? It definitely isn’t the coolest thing.

BEGIN STORY

Side story: When I started dating my husband of now 12 years, I was in a sexy Santa helper content at a night club. I was there with another dude and he was not cool with my scant clothing so he got mad and was leaving.

Picture me — in my Santa dress, candy cane stockings, and platform strappy shoes. #facepalm haha – running across the dance floor to stop this dude and he storms out.

Wait! Don’t go!

Anyway… dude leaves because he’s mad but that’s AFTER I tripped over a very drunk dude – VERRY DRUNK – that wanted to stop me and say I should have one.

Thanks, random drunk dude. Can you even see what I look like? yeah – no? Thanks but that makes it a little less flattering. haha.

Anyway. I tripped over the drunk dude and my hubs saw it all. Bleh

I didn’t stay on the floor and wait for a drunk guy or any of the other people to help me up. I got the heck back up and went running again. haha

Granted the dude I was on the date with ended up leaving (lol) but I know I won out in the end with my hubs and our beautiful family. Anyway… back out of the story… haha

END STORY

Anyway… for real.

It’s fine to fail. Fail as much as you possibly can.

Most people are freakin’ scared they will still fail but it will be tiny failures they can hide.

Fail to find their keys. Fail to pack lunch for their kids. Fail to pass a test on the first try.

Public failure is the biggest terrifying fear EVER because everyone is such an asshole when we fail.

Ha! I knew it. She’s such a dreamer. Looooserrrr. I knew she was going to fail.

Jokes on you b*tches – I’m on the rise again. lol

Whatever you think people are saying about you – it’s probably worse. But that’s okay. Let them talk.

Don’t let people get in your head or you’re never ever going to get through it.

6. Give Yourself a Talking To

People say you’re crazy if you talk to yourself. Well, forget about ’em. They are crazy if they don’t talk to themselves.

Talking to yourself can be the best conversation you’ll ever have.

You generally know what you’re supposed to do. You know what you’d tell someone else to do.

Step outside of your body and let yourself know who is boss. You’re boss. You’re going to do what you know you need to do and not let anything get in your way.

TALK TO YOURSELF EXAMPLES

Girlfriend! What the hell is wrong with you? Why are you worrying about someone that doesn’t give a sh*t about you on the other side of the world thinks???”

Woman, rise up. Quit crying. Feeling defeated. Worrying. And being unhealthy! Get yourself together.

You deserve everything you ever wanted in life. Now go WORK FOR IT!

You want a better life?? Play a bigger game girl. You’ve got this!

Sometimes I’ll just say this stuff in my head but other times, I’ll say it to myself because that’s what it takes. I recommend doing it out loud if you can without being committed.

7. Think Positive

I’m not saying that you think your problems away. I am saying that you don’t make them worse than they are.

BEGIN STORY

My mom was a massive worrier. She worried until her last breath.

When she died – I got scared.

What if all of her worrying was really important? What if she was keeping me and my family alive with her worry superpower? It was a terrifying thought

So what?

So I started worrying about myself.

I lost a massive chunk of my business, got evicted and had to move back in with my Dad.

Worry – not good!

END STORY

While people in your life might mean well by worrying for you. It isn’t doing you or anyone else any good. It’s not build up invisible get out of harm free cards. STOP that sh*t!

8. Be Curious

The more curious you are, the more you’re likely to do. When you get out and do things, your confidence will grow. You’ll get to know more people that are curious and find friends with common interests and goals.

When you’re curious and you go out discovering, you’ll find more good than you do bad. Just get out there!

9. Give Self-Doubt the Middle Finger

Yes, this is a very very important one. Stop second-guessing yourself. The more you do this – the more you’ll do this. It’s HORRIBLE.

It’s like a life sucking black hole of doubt.

You won’t help yourself or others doubting.

You’ll put pressure on people outside of yourself to make you feel smart enough, good enough and ready enough for whatever the heck it is we want to do.

F*ck off self-doubt. Jump in a lake. Fly a kite!

Continue to Up-Level Your Life

Don’t worry about leaving other people in the dust. As you’re learning how to be confident and live a better life – some people will fall away. You don’t need everyone.

Not having people in my life was something I was so scared of. I was afraid to post my true views on social media.

I was afraid people were going to think I was a terrible person. I found that as I quit hiding my truth – people that were right for me came into my life. Keep developing yourself as a person by reading more of my personal development articles and book reviews.

9 Top Mistakes Small Business Owners Make (It’s Not What You Think)

woman sitting at the desk talking about mistakes small businesses make

In 2018, the SBA reported there were 30.2 million small businesses in the US.

Those 30.2 million small businesses employ 47.5% of all employees.

While you hear so much about small businesses failing, it seems like they are doing A LOT of good.

The mistakes small business owners make that I am going to talk about today are the ones I have personally seen people making over the years.

Grab your favorite cup of coffee or tea and let’s get into it.

Contents

Avoid These Mistakes Small Business Owners Make

These mistakes are all honest mistakes. I don’t think you purposefully decided you wanted to sabotage your business. (lol) Let’s get into it.

1. Showing a Lack of Confidence

Many small business owners have to wear multiple hats in their business. You likely not only wrote your business plan but you’re the brains behind marketing, sales and all other important elements of your business.

If you lack confidence in any of these areas, your business is going to suffer. People don’t want to hire someone that is nervous – even if it is not about the product or service you offer.

Despite what people think – confidence is not something you’re born with. Confidence is a choice. Confidence is a skill.

2. Undervaluing Your Product or Service

I know some of my small business friends that off their products and services for insanely low prices.

What happens then?

Low profits.

What happens when a business has low profits?

The business owner is overworked. Especially if the business owner is working solo.

When a business owner is overworked, that means oversight and lower quality work.

If you double your prices, you can work half as much and get paid the same.

Let the fear go. Understand your worth and know there are people out there that are willing to pay it. If the people you’re talking to aren’t willing to pay it then they aren’t your target audience.

Important Note: You should look at the competition and see what they are charging but only as a point of reference.

3. Giving Friends and Family Discounts

We are all so guilty of this. We want to give our friends and family deals. Most of the time the deals we give them don’t give us room for any profit at all.

If most of your business comes from friends and family, you’re not running a business – you’re running a charity!

I personally like to pay my friends and family that are business owners MORE than what they ask me for. If your friends and family can’t afford it then… uh… they can’t afford it!

4. Assuming Marketing Will Take Care of Itself

Never assume that marketing is going to take care of itself. Whether you’re marketing with a blog or other methods – it’s simply not going to.

You have to take some time to put a marketing strategy together so you keep business coming in.

Most business owners do marketing in bursts.

When the money stops coming in – that’s when they start marketing again. Does that sound like you? Shamey shamey… lol Just kidding.

5. Being Afraid of Technology

If you aren’t in the generations that grew up with technology, you may be a little (or a lot) afraid of technology.

Think about the last time someone asked you if you were able to do xyz. Did you say that you couldn’t because you weren’t equipped to do that? Hmm… may need to think on that.

How can you advance your technology?

6. Not Offering Options

Ok.

So.

Yes, I know that In and Out Burger has a very cool thing going with their limited options. That’s not going to work for every business model.

Make sure you’re providing enough options for the people in your market.

If you aren’t, they will go do business with someone else.

7. Spending Money on the Wrong Things

There are so many shiny objects.

Like – so many!

I am NOT guiltless here.

I used to be addicted to buying domain names. I had so many domain names. lol OMG It was terrible.

And training. Lots of training.

At least I did go through all of them. lol

If you spend a lot of money on things that aren’t going to bring a return on your investment quickly, you may spend yourself into a hole.

8. Not Spending Enough Money on the Right Things

When it gets to spending money on things that aren’t sexy – that’s when we clam up.

Do I really want to spend this money here?

Do I really need a functioning toilet? lol Just kidding – I hope!

9. Hiring Based on Relationship

Ah… this is a tough one. SO freakin’ tough! BAH!

So, I have hired people based on relationship. Because they were family or friends and they needed a job.

Once you hire these people – you often see WHY they needed a job. lol

Anyone that you hire should go through the same vetting process. Just because they are friends and family – they don’t get to skate through. Sorrrryyyy!

How to Market Your Business With a Blog

Learning online marketing is one of the most difficult things a small business owner can do. It can be frustrating and seem less than rewarding when you’re getting started.

What Should You Blog About?

When you start thinking about putting together a blog for your business, it is easy to write down five ideas.

But then what?

What do you do when you write about all of those five ideas? Even if you find a couple of different angles to write about those ideas – you’ve only got ten blog posts.

Then you’re dead in the water.

Here’s the good news.

You don’t have to ONLY write about what you do.

Your goal is to write interesting and helpful content for people that may be interested in your product or service. This is why it is important that you know who your ideal customer is. If you’re not writing content that serves your ideal customer, you won’t attract the right people and your sales will be low.

How Often Should You Blog?

When you’re thinking about how often you should blog, there is no one right answer.

Think about your goal with your blog.

Are you trying to get more traffic for SEO?

Are you trying to write a viral article and get more traffic from social media sharing?

If you want to rank for more SEO terms then you want to write more content. The more optimized content you have, the more chances there are to get found on Bing, Google, and other search engines.

If you’re trying to get a viral article, you might want to spend more time doing research on what goes viral and figuring out how to get influencers to share your content.

This is why it is important to know what your strategy is for online success with your blog.

How To Promote Your Blog Content

When you start blogging, you need to promote your content. If you don’t promote your content, no one will know about it.

You can share your blog post on Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms.  Tell your friends and family to check it out.

Have people interview you on podcasts or talk shows.

Any way you can get attention to your blog is a good way. Continue to do what is working and throw out strategies that aren’t getting you the attention that you want.

How Much Do Lifestyle Bloggers Make?

pretty woman looking off in the field

How much do lifestyle bloggers make? And what is a lifestyle blogger anyway?

A lifestyle blogger is someone that blogs about their life – often daily.

So, I found this epic article from Grant Sabatier over at Millennial Money. Dude made over $400,000 in a year with his blog side hustle.

That’s cray cray!

While it is true that lifestyle bloggers can make $1,000s, $100,000s and even $1,000,000, you should know it is NOT life a job.

You do not sit at your computer for 8 hours a day and collect a paycheck at the end of the week.

Whether you’re a lifestyle blogger or blogging on a niche topic, you have to get results to get that money. What kind of results? You either need to make sales, generate leads or get paid to showcase ads on your site.

Examples of Lifestyle Bloggers Bringing in the Big Bucks

If you think lifestyle blogging is something to laugh at – well stop it. You’re not going to make any money blogging that way.

Here are a couple of real-life examples of lifestyle bloggers that are absolutely cleaning it up!

Michelle Gardener from MakingSenseofCents.com rakes in a massive $100,000+ a month through her blog while she’s traveling full time in an RV. Yeah, girl. You go. lol

Rose Atwater may not make $100,000 a month blogging, but her last income report in Dec 2016 showed a whopping $8,000+ a month. She’s blogging about food! Yum!

Can I Make Money Blogging or Is It for the Chosen Few?

If you want to make money talking about your life, you might be wondering if it is possible or if only a few chosen people will actually make it?

The truth is that it is for the few chosen people, but the good news is you get to choose yourself.

How do you get to choose yourself? By showing up with valuable content day in and day out. Blogging isn’t one of those things that you write a few blog posts and ride off into the sunset with your money.

Blogging takes creating a plan of action and an insane amount of work ethic. In my blog post about how to start a blog, I lay out exactly how to get started but most people won’t ever take action.

Taking action can be scary and it is easy to get confused. If you want to be a paid lifestyle blogger, food blogger, mommy blogger or any other kind of blogger – you can do it!

It will take some sweat, blog (I mean blood), and tears, but I fully believe it is worth it. The first $12 affiliate commission I remember making felt so freaking amazing it wasn’t even funny.

One of the resources I used and still use is Wealthy Affiliate. It’s an affiliate marketing school and you can see my experience with it here.

Thanks for stopping by. Who are some of your favorite lifestyle bloggers? Share with us in comments – I’d love to hear from you.

What Is A Blog? Is It Like a Diary or Something?

confused woman

What is a blog?

I realized there were more people than not that still don’t fully understand what a blog is. Many people think a blog is an online diary of their lives.

How could I make money with a blog about my life?

Well, a blog can be about your life but that doesn’t really define a blog.

What is a Blog? For Real

A blog is a fluid (always updating) type of webpage. It’s usually all around the same topic or the same few topics.

For example, this blog is all about personal development and making money. I also plan on branching out into personal finance and money management because hey – if you make all of this money, what do you do with it?

You May Also Enjoy: How to Make Money With Your Weird Hobby

If you’re thinking about starting a blog, especially if you want to learn how to start a blog for profit then your blog needs to help someone. Your blog should give people information on a topic and help them through the decision-making process so they can achieve their desired result.

How Do You Decide What to Blog About?

Now that you have the answer to your question, you likely want to know what you should blog about.

Blogging about something you’re knowledgeable about or want to learn more about is a great strategy. When you blog about something you’re interested in, you’re much more likely to build out your blog and promote it.

If you pick a topic that has a lot of competition, it may take you longer to get attention, but that isn’t always the case. If you have a big social media following, it may be easy for you to get attention for your blog.

Blogging Best Practices

A few things I’ve learned over the years since I’ve been in the online world are the importance of consistency and the importance of networking.

When you’re consistent with your blog, people trust that you’re going to keep creating content. People like to come back to see what is new. If they come back a month later and there’s nothing new – BORING. lol

Stay as consistent as possible. If you fall off the posting schedule, get back on again and take another go at it. Yee-hah!

Now on the networking side of things, it is great to make alliances with people in your industry or closely related industries. When you do this, you can help each other promote content. You will also gain very valuable backlinks.

As you learn more about SEO, you’ll find out the importance of getting links from highly relevant and authoritative websites. Think of these links as votes for your site.

For now, it’s great that you know what a blog is now. If you want to keep learning, you can look at the online school I’m a member of. I also have my websites hosted here so you know I trust them. You can read my review here.
