What Is A Blog? Is It Like a Diary or Something?

What is a blog?

I realized there were more people than not that still don’t fully understand what a blog is. Many people think a blog is an online diary of their lives.

How could I make money with a blog about my life?

Well, a blog can be about your life but that doesn’t really define a blog.

What is a Blog? For Real

A blog is a fluid (always updating) type of webpage. It’s usually all around the same topic or the same few topics.

For example, this blog is all about personal development and making money. I also plan on branching out into personal finance and money management because hey – if you make all of this money, what do you do with it?

If you’re thinking about starting a blog, especially if you want to learn how to start a blog for profit then your blog needs to help someone. Your blog should give people information on a topic and help them through the decision-making process so they can achieve their desired result.

How Do You Decide What to Blog About?

Now that you have the answer to your question, you likely want to know what you should blog about.

Blogging about something you’re knowledgeable about or want to learn more about is a great strategy. When you blog about something you’re interested in, you’re much more likely to build out your blog and promote it.

If you pick a topic that has a lot of competition, it may take you longer to get attention, but that isn’t always the case. If you have a big social media following, it may be easy for you to get attention for your blog.

Blogging Best Practices

A few things I’ve learned over the years since I’ve been in the online world are the importance of consistency and the importance of networking.

When you’re consistent with your blog, people trust that you’re going to keep creating content. People like to come back to see what is new. If they come back a month later and there’s nothing new – BORING. lol

Stay as consistent as possible. If you fall off the posting schedule, get back on again and take another go at it. Yee-hah!

Now on the networking side of things, it is great to make alliances with people in your industry or closely related industries. When you do this, you can help each other promote content. You will also gain very valuable backlinks.

As you learn more about SEO, you’ll find out the importance of getting links from highly relevant and authoritative websites. Think of these links as votes for your site.

For now, it’s great that you know what a blog is now. If you want to keep learning, you can look at the online school I’m a member of. I also have my websites hosted here so you know I trust them. You can read my review here.
