When you set your prices, you should always look to see where your competition has set their prices. You may have to do some mystery shopping or have a friend do mystery shopping to find out what their rates are if they keep them private. Depending on the product or service, they may be listed online where you can easily see them.
Once you learn how your competition is operating with their price strategy, you will be able to see how you want to position yourself. You may want to put yourself in a similar price range, lower than their rates or you may want to charge premium prices that are higher than your competition.
Culture
If you see your competition has a thriving company, look into their culture. The company culture has a lot to do with how well a company does.
If you aren’t sure how to create the same type of culture, you can see the messaging they use in their job descriptions and even interview previous employees to find what you can about how they create the culture in their company.
Company Structure
The structure of a company is important. Whether you are starting your company or you have been operating for a while, you can look at your competition’s company structure and see if there are things that are lacking in your company so that you can improve upon their model in your own company.
Financials
There are various ways that you can gain access to company financials. Depending on the kind of company it is, the financials may be public which makes it easy for you to look through. When you can see what they are doing with their money, that makes it much easier for you to decide what to do with yours.
Possible Weaknesses
As you are reviewing your competition and trying to learn from your competition, look for any weaknesses they have. Often this is a point where you can grow your company to be strong and shine even brighter since they are less than brilliant in that area.
Growing Your Company
There are many ways you can learn from your competition so make sure that you don’t miss out on any of them. These five are only the beginning as you are improving upon the strengths and weaknesses of your company.

Think & Grow Rich
I was in my twenties before I found out about this book. I wish I would have found it when I was a kid because of its ability to help you achieve things that seem to be impossible. When I first read the book, all of the foreign concepts didn’t make much sense to me.
“Think” and grow rich. What is that even supposed to mean. I want to take my business to the next level. How is thinking supposed to help me do that? Whatever. That’s stupid.
I was desperate, however, so I kept reading.
After getting into the book and deep diving, I finally understood what it meant. Our thoughts steer our decisions, and our decisions shape our reality. Every choice that we make means we’ve gone one way vs. another and that changes our lives.

The 5 Second Rule
Another amazing book that gives you the tools to take it to the next level is the 5 Second Rule. When I read the 5 Second Rule, I actually listened to it through audio. I love the way Mel Robbins explains things and tells her stories.
The five-second rule is a powerful technique that allows you to get your brain in gear with what you know you need to do – RIGHT NOW!
There are many applications to the rule and Mel talks about them in the book. I would suggest getting the audiobook if you are going to get this one.

The Obstacle Is the Way
This book gave me a whole new outlook on obstacles. Instead of being frustrated when I see obstacles now, I get excited. If I see the obstacle, I know what I need to overcome to get what I want.
If we don’t see the obstacle, how do we know where we are supposed to go to get what we want? We’re lost in the dark! Who knows what is going on?
I also listened to this one and loved the stories Ryan told. There is something about hearing it straight from the person that experienced it instead of imagining it in your voice.
I’ve been through this book multiple times as well as getting the thoughts into my head and adopting them.

Tools of Titans
Tools of Titans is a beast of a book by Tim Ferris. It’s not laid out where you have to read the whole thing. It’s more things Tim has learned that has thought would be helpful to others.
It is a compilation of techniques, stories, and principles he has learned from hundreds of other people that are giants in their fields.
I’ve barely made a crack in the book, but have been able to pull out some amazing things to apply to my everyday life. One of the things it brought me back to was morning pages.
I had been doing morning pages, but I then stepped away for whatever reason, but after his explanation of the benefits, I am back at it and consistent. It’s changed my life and allowed me to operate as a better human.

Abundance Now
Lisa’s stories and insight are so inspiring that I had felt my heart come up in my throat plenty when I was reading it. This book helped me see that no matter where I came from, what I had or didn’t have, etc., that I was going to be ok. That I could win at life.

We all know about Google & its insane algorithm of uncrackableness. (New word)! However, more algorithms are popping up, and things are getting more complicated for marketers.
Now platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn & Instagram only show you a fraction of what you used to be able to see.
Remember when you’d get on Facebook and you’d see all of the things your friends were posting right away? Even business pages you were following were showing up in your feed without being an ad.
Now, you only see a few of your friend’s updates. What does that mean for you? Fewer people see what you’re posting.
How to Benefit:
The best way to benefit from the increase of algorithms is to create content that people want to share. Creating content people want to share will allow you to get in front of more people that may not see your social media posts from your page.
The algorithm helps people see more of what they want to see. When your content is high-quality, you aren’t going to have to worry about algorithms as much.
Good content will find its way to people. Ensure your content is valuable when you share or otherwise you might be a victim of the filtered feed.
2. We Spend Our Time on Apps vs. Visiting Websites
Most of our time isn’t spent typing web addresses. Roughly 90% of our time on our mobile, we spend on apps. We love our social media apps, gaming apps, time management, meditation, and anything else you can think of – APPS!
How to Benefit:
If your business doesn’t have an app – it is time to get an app. Make it easy for people to access your information or you can have an eCommerce app and sell your products to mobile users.
3. Artificial Intelligence
You’ve probably already seen AI at work on websites like Amazon or another favorite shopping site. It almost seems like they are listening in on your conversations when they recommend “cute comfortable flip-flops” to you. Or maybe, that is just me.
Artificial intelligence is good at things like breaking down masses of data and making sense of it all. While we see a jumbled mess, AI sees a pattern and proof of what people want and why they want it.
How to Benefit:
You can purchase software that uses AI to recommend products and services to your customers, create chatbots and more. What we see now is the beginning of even more advancements with AI.
4. Video Is on the Rise
All kinds of video are on the rise from instructional, promotional, programs and live streaming videos; it is all in high demand. People are consuming immense amounts of video each day on social media platforms. These people are also streaming videos through Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
How to Benefit:
If you or your company has anything you can create videos about (you do), you can get the attention you otherwise wouldn’t have been able to get.
5. Influencer Marketing
Influencer marketing has been around for a long time, but mainly through sports figures on television. Now we have Instagram models and stars of Twitter to get out the word about our business and services.
How to Benefit:
Instead of spending millions of dollars signing an endorsement deal with a sports figure, you can find micro-influencers. Micro-influencers charge as little as $100, $500 or $1,000 to promote your product and share it with their audience.

1. Setting Personal Business Goals
Before you start setting personal business goals, you need to know what you really want. While you probably have a goal in mind like buying a new car or a new house, but what are you willing to trade for it?
Are you willing to trade Friday night dinner with your family so you can add an extra room onto the house? Are you willing to make date night 2 hours instead of 4 so you can fit in extra schooling?
One of the exercises you can do to see what you really want is to get out a piece of paper and start writing down your things you would like to have or do as quickly as possible. This will give you an idea of where your head is. You want to try to get to 100 on your paper.
2. Start Writing Immediately
You need to write down your goals. There is no way around it. It’s fine to put it in your phone, but you need to keep your aim on the goal.
Keep yourself focused so that you keep working toward the goal.
Write it down at least once a day, so your mind knows that is still where you need to focus your energy.
Be determined when you write it. If you write with doubt and unbelief, that is going to transfer over to your mind, and you don’t want that.
3. Setting a Deadline for Your Goals
Set a deadline of when you will have your goal in your hand, but don’t beat yourself up if you are a little behind. Sometimes when you set personal business goals, you are a little ambitious for what you can really do. If you didn’t set them at all, that is when you wouldn’t get anywhere.
4. Break It Down to Increase Productivity
Whatever your goal is, you need to break it down. Break it down in a way that is going to help you gain the momentum you need to finish the project.
If you don’t feel like you are getting anywhere, you are likely to get tired and quit. You don’t want this to happen so break it down and give yourself small wins.
5. Focus on Fewer Goals
Sometimes we are like chickens with our heads cut off. We are running around confused and unaware of what we are doing.
A lot of times that is because we are trying to get so many different things at once. We are tiring ourselves out and keeping ourselves from getting to our goals because of lack of focus.
If you focus on fewer goals, you’ll be more likely to hit them faster.
6. Know Why You Want Your Goals
If you have a goal to get a fancy car, that’s one thing. If you have a goal to get a fancy car so that you can rub your ex’s face in it when you drive by, that is a whole other level of motivation.
You’ve got to make yourself want your goal so badly that nothing is going to stop you from achieving it.
7. “Be Careful What You Wish For”
In number one, you set your goals, but this is a reminder to double check what you truly want as well as checking your motivations.
If you wish for a big house to show your parents what a good provider you are and they both pass away, your motivation may be gone. You’ll be left with a big mortgage and lack of motivation.
Setting personal business goals should be more about you and less about others. This will allow you to stay focused no matter what is going on outside of you.

Before you make your site, make sure there is an affiliate program for the niche. Since Amazon is almost in every niche, you should be good.
#3 – Drive Traffic to Your Blog
You need to have a blog. You can read: How to Start a Blog And you need to get traffic to it. The way that you do it is up to you, but my choice is through SEO.
There are literally billions of keyword terms out there and few people (if any) that are optimizing for them. Why shouldn’t it be you? This is free and PASSIVE traffic.
If you’ve created your website in a compelling manner, you can sit back and rake in the cash when SEO meets affiliate marketing meets a great site that converts.

Make sure you have a bank that can hold all of the money or plenty of plans of how you are going to spend the money.

What I’ve Learned about Wealthy Affiliate After 10 Years
Let’s just say that I have joined A LOT of different online learning platforms since 2010. While I did find Wealthy Affiliate early on, I thought the money for the monthly admission was way too much. I guess that was because of the way that I was looking at it. I was looking at it as an expense vs an investment in myself and my husband and I worked hard for our money so I didn’t want to spend it if I didn’t have to.
Since that was the case, I was at Wealthy Affiliate for a little while and even though they taught me an insane amount of information that was super helpful, I ended up going elsewhere.

I kept searching for something that was going to fit all of those criteria but what I kept finding was that most of these other online school are either:
Outdated
Offer little to no support
More expensive

#1 of How to Keep People On Your Website Longer – Let People Know You’re Going to Solve Their Problem Right Away
When you search for something online, you are looking for a solution. You might want to understand how something works, how to do something, where to buy something, where to get the best price on something, etc.
When a visitor lands on your page, you need to know what they want and you need to let them know you’re going to give it to them in the content. If you don’t, they are likely to click away and go visit your competitor.
This click away will give you a higher bounce rate and a lower amount of time that they spend on your site and the less time they spend on your site, the less likely they are going to be able to purchase anything you might be selling.
How do you let them know that you are going to solve them challenges?
Use this post for example.
First off, I related with you. Then I told you that I was going to help you fix the problem. Since you were assured that you were going to have your challenge fixed, you’re still here. (Thanks for that by the way. Great to have you.)
#2 – Ask for Comments
When you get to the comment of your comments, ask for a comment. It takes a little while to leave a comment so it will increase the average time that people spend on your page.
Don’t just say something like, “Hey, did you like this post? Leave a comment.” I’ve done that. It doesn’t work. lol
Instead of something generic, ask for their opinion or ask some other specific question. Even if people want to comment, they might not be sure what to say. It’s a little scary putting yourself out there on the open web for everyone to see.
#3 – Write Long Form Content
If you can read your content in two minutes, how are they supposed to stay on the site for three or more? They are already done. You’ve given them as much as you can for their answer and they are off to look for someone else to tell them more.
On the other hand, if you write high-quality content that solves their problem, gives them more incite, inspires them to do more research (hopefully on your site) and draws them in, you are going to see them on your site for longer. You might even get a bookmark or a share.
#4 – Interlink to Related Articles on Your Site
You want to include links to your closely related content in your blog posts. The more that you do that, you are going to increase the not only the time spent on your site, but also the number of pages that were visited which is a good sign that you’re a blog is providing value to the reader.
Also, make sure that the content you are linking to is in the natural progression of learning for the best results. For instance, in this post, I would do better linking to this post about having a successful online marketing plan vs this post about how to start a blog. If you’re reading about how to keep people on your website longer, you probably already have a blog.
While you might still read the post about starting a blog, I am providing a better experience by helping you get to the next step vs just trying to get you to read another post.
#5 – Increase Your Site’s Speed
Don’t forget about your site’s speed. Just because someone clicks on search to come to your site doesn’t mean that you are going to keep them.
If your visitors lands on your page and your site takes a long time to load, it is going to be a problem. Mobile searchers are more impatient every day and they don’t to wait over 3 seconds in most cases. There are plenty of things that could be making your site slow including large images, too many plugins, and more.

With over 55,000 plugins available on the WordPress platform, you may be worried about your site and wondering, “How many WordPress plugins are too much?”
You don’t want to max out your site’s resources from using too many plugins, but how do you know how many are too many?
This is not a one size fits all answer. It greatly depends on the type of hosting that you are using for your website.
Problems too Many Plugins Cause for Your Site
#1 – The biggest problem you will notice whenever you have too many plugins on your site is that it could slow your site down. No one wants to wait for websites to load and Google’s John Mueller even recommends that your site should load under 3 seconds.
If that doesn’t scare you enough and have you working on your site speed, you should know that mobile searchers are especially impatient. They don’t care why you have so many plugins on your site – they just want you to stop!
#2 – Security issues are another concern when you download and use too many WordPress plugins. Every plugin that you use means another way hackers can get into your site.
You can use security plugins to help your site stay secure, but there we go again adding another plugin.
#3 – Site crashes can happen because of plugins are as well so make sure that you are careful what you load on your WordPress. Even popular plugins can cause issues with your site so every plugin you add increases risk.
Conclusion on How Many WordPress Plugins Are Too Much?
If you notice that your site starts acting strange or slow after you add a plugin, that is a good sign that you need to uninstall that plugin.
You can also ask your hosting provider for a report on which plugins are using up the most resources so you don’t max out your bandwidth.

When you use WordPress.com, they are hosting your blog and this means that they have control over it. On the other hand, if you are using WordPress.org, you host your blog through a hosting company like HostGator, BlueHost, etc. and you have control over the site which means no higher power (lol) is going to delete your site at a whim. (Yes, I have had it happen)
Which Version of WordPress is Better for Making Money?
If you put your blog on WordPress.com, you have limited options for making money. You can get a share of some ad revenue if you serve WordAds on your blog. You only get a small share of the ad revenue though.
WordPress.org is a much better solution for earning money on your WordPress blog. If you are super NOT techie then you might want to start there, but otherwise – don’t. WordPress.org all the way.

The reason that I like using Google Adsense to monetize my blog is that they are marketing geniuses. They follow your visitors around on the internet and keep showing them ads for things they are interested in.
