Wealthy Affiliate scam or not?

What I’ve Learned about Wealthy Affiliate After 10 Years

Let’s just say that I have joined A LOT of different online learning platforms since 2010. While I did find Wealthy Affiliate early on, I thought the money for the monthly admission was way too much. I guess that was because of the way that I was looking at it. I was looking at it as an expense vs an investment in myself and my husband and I worked hard for our money so I didn’t want to spend it if I didn’t have to.

Since that was the case, I was at Wealthy Affiliate for a little while and even though they taught me an insane amount of information that was super helpful, I ended up going elsewhere.

What have I been looking for?

  1. Support
  2. Community
  3. REAL training to get RESULTS
  4. A Place I can refer others to for help
  5. Not going to break the bank

I kept searching for something that was going to fit all of those criteria but what I kept finding was that most of these other online school are either:

  • Outdated
  • Offer little to no support
  • More expensive
  • Geared toward people with lots of tech skills

So, while they might tick a couple of boxes, they didn’t tick them all. 🙁

Finally (after around 10 years!) I have come back to Wealthy Affiliate because it does offer all of those things AND I have the right mindset now to welcome the money that I put in for an investment.

There is now a free account option that allows you to get started and then you can upgrade to the premium which is pretty cool. I think it allows you to see what it is really like before you pull your credit card out and put your hard-earned money on the line. I know it was scary for me. Maybe it’s not for you, but if it is – that’s ok! I get it.

What I’ve learned about Wealthy Affiliate after 10 years is that they have stuck around for the long haul. 14 years in business!

When I came back to Wealthy Affiliate (check out my profile below) I was really impressed at how much it had grown in my absence!

my profile on wealthy affiliate

I was glad I didn’t have to create a whole new profile when I came back.

Another cool thing is that before when I was here, the co-founders Carson and Kyle were these single dudes that were probably off partying (I don’t know…lol) on an island somewhere and weren’t super active in the community and a lot of people were complaining about it.

Now, Kyle & Carson are both active on the site, married and have kids. Look at these cute pics! lol

Who I Am

You can see more about me on my About page but here is a little bit. 🙂

Here is our family at the Grand Canyon.

When I started out with Wealthy Affiliate in 2010, I had no idea if it was a wealthy affiliate scam, I had no idea about how to write compelling copy, how to set up a website and start my own blog or any of the stuff that I know now.

Since we have freedom of location we full-time RV and go wherever we want. So far we have been to 17 different states and it has just been super amazing. <3

  1. Loved your post, spot on. I to was one who searched high and low for an affiliate program but as you shared TRUE, to much money I even had one wanted 10,000 dollars for their program, what a joke. I’m happy to be a member at wealthy affiliate and everything you shared is true. I hope many will see your posts and see success in WA is there.Thank you so much Jessica.

    • David,

Hey there. Awesome to hear. And yes, I’ve been a part of one program that is you wanted to get to their top level it was $50,000. :-O Whoa.lol

See you around Wealthy Affiliate! =)

  2. Wealthy Affiliates is a life changer alright and this is a very honest article
    Keep up the great work
I love Wealthy Affiliates also and the support is amazing

    • Vicki,

Thanks Vicki. =) You’re so right on. I love the support of the instructors and the others in the community. I am glad that this is not a Wealthy Affiliate scam, but a legit opportunity to make money. 🙂

  3. Wow! Congrats on such a long stay with WA! I’m super happy that you’ve shared your experience with everyone by writing this post.

It just goes to show that with the proper training, you WILL succeed as long as you continue to work for the things you want by applying what is taught within the WA community.

Congrats on the awesome wheels as well!

    • Aria,

Right on. Stay the course and work on your passive income on the daily. =D

Glad you like the wheels. I <3 her. lol

  4. I have been a member at WA for almost 2 years now. In that time I have learned a lot, and also learned that it takes a lot of effort to succeed. I am still trying to figure out the “secret sauce” to making my website successful.

I really appreciate the fact that you are honest about WA and you set realistic expectations. You are right, it’s not for everyone, especially if you are not going to put in the work. If it was easy to succeed everyone would.

I encourage people reading this post to check WA out. Use the free trial to test the waters and see if it will be a good fit for them. This is not a get rich quick scheme, that is for sure.

Thanks again for sharing your insight.

    • Steve,

Thanks for sharing some of your experience. I am always thinking about the doctors that pay thousands and thousands of dollars to become doctors to work 80+ hours per week and be on call (I am super grateful for them), but then when we have to put out a little money and a few years to learn the craft of internet marketing that gives us passive and residual income we get tired and want to quit. We have the opportunity to experience the 4 hours work week after building a money making machine and Wealthy Affiliate teaches how to do that. =D

Keep it up Steve. I look forward to hearing your success stories.

  5. Hi Jessica,
Nice read! I even found myself visiting other pages to explore what you were offering. Not sure where you live, but I drive to Grand Cayon very often to refresh my weekend lol.

I am personally enjoying the training and Wealthy Affiliate and starting to see returns my writing and blogging efforts.
Wow, you sure have been a member for a long time!
Thank you for the nice review, and plan to check in, and see where you go next!

    • Maun,

Oh wow! That’s so cool! We will have to connect and you can show us the best places to go next time. lol Currently we are in TN. That is our home base but we are RVing. 🙂

Glad you enjoyed the review and I hope you got value out of the other posts you visited as well.

Here’s to a successful rest of the year!

  6. Hello Jessica, great review on the WA platform. I was like you; back in 2014, I was working on WA, but I stopped to look for other ways to make money online, but to no avail. Now three years later, I have completed the certification classes, and is working hard on my site until my online business takes off. WA is awesome for anyone with great potential, despite of all of the information. But WA is worth the time and effort, and I’m doing the best I can. Thanks again, and NEVER GIVE UP!!!

  7. Hi Jessica; Your site is awesome. Wealthy Affiliate got under my skin also. I am only here about a year, working on posts. Your site tells it all and am happy some of us have to opportunity to be here also. Wishing you all the best.

    • Bill,

Hi there. Thanks very much. I am glad that you like the site and that you are doing well with Wealthy Affiliate. That’s exciting! Here’s to a successful rest of 2018 and beyond!

  8. Great review on Wealthy Affiliate. Congrats on what you’ve been able to achieve in your relationship/family,etc. But I’m just curious about one question…

I’m sure you’ve heard of Wealthy Affiliate’s bad reputation on bashing other products and promote themselves. What would you say for this and what’s your opinion on that?

    • Jerry,

Thanks for coming by. Actually yes, I have seen some people that do bash other products just to promote Wealthy Affiliate. I believe if you have to write a negative review that you can do it in a classy manner. If the product or business is legit then it should be stated as so. I think many of these reviews are done by newbies that don’t know any better.

  9. Hey Jessica,

What a great personal review of Wealthy Affiliate. I have been a member for just over a year, so I am one of the converted but it is reassuring to hear the development of the business from 13 years ago, well in your experience 8 years ago. Yes, it is great that both Kyle and Carson are regularly active in the community, this really helps. I guess family life is suiting them both, as it is for you too!

    Congratulations on the Mercedes too.

As you mention, there are many on the internet claiming WA to be a scam as it really does sound too good to be true however in my experience they not only deliver but over deliver on what they promise. As someone with greater experience in this area than myself, what do you now find the most valuable about your WA membership? I often hear comments that it’s a great platform for beginners in online marketing and not those with experience. You clearly have experience so what works for you about it now?

    • Fluer,

Hi there. Thanks! And that’s awesome.

As for WA not being great for people that have experience, while there may not be a lot of complex training, the fundamentals are the most important in the business. You get the fundamentals and for around $300 a year, that’s crazy cheap.

If you need to learn something like paid traffic or how to increase conversion rates, go find a course. lol

I find people want a one-stop shop for everything, but that isn’t always the case.

We have different friends and clothes because just one isn’t going to give us everything that we want and it can be the same with education.

  10. What a wonderful and complete review of Wealthy Affiliate. I recently joined myself and I must say that I find their platform amazing.

I decided to pay on an annual basis and compared with other trainings out there on the web it’s really affordable. I would recommend it to anyone.

Enjoyed seeing your family pictures too!

    • Howard,

That is awesome. Thank you for sharing your experience and I am glad that you found what you are looking for with Wealthy Affiliate. Welcome to the WA family!

  11. HI Jessica,
I think you did an awesome job supporting Wealthy Affiliate. I have been a member for only a week or two and I have been getting awesome results because of the training we get. I am so happy I took my sisters advise and joined.

    • Loraine,

That’s great to hear. Building an online business is one of the smartest things you can do when you want to build an income from home. There are other options to make money online or from home, but affiliate marketing is one of the least time intensive once you get it up and running.

  12. I canceled my account a month ago and they took it out anyway.
By doing that they are not trust worthy and should not be trusted.
If you are thinking about joining DO NOT!!! BECAUSE THEY ARE CROOKS AND SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED!!!!!!!!!

    • M K,

While I am no longer a member of Wealthy Affiliate, I don’t believe they are a scam. I would advise you to contact customer support and let them know what happened. Sometimes systems mess up. Do let us know what happens. 🙂
