I have seen a few different posts about how to make money on instagram over the years but most of them use gimmicky type methods and I want to build an asset – NOT a gimmick. lol

This post is for people that aren’t afraid of some hard work and putting some elbow grease in to get going. This post is not for people looking for get rich quick schemes so if that’s you, be on your way. :0)

Why You Want to Play in the Instagram Playground

If you are like me then you probably get tired of trying to figure out where the best place to spend your time is online, right? Well, the best place to spend your time is where the eyeballs you want are!

My main playgrounds in order of where I spend my time are:

  • Facebook
  • Linkedin
  • Twitter
  • Instagram

but that is changing up to put Instagram at #2 vs #4 and here are some of the stats that helped me see the importance of being on instagram and crushing it as a marketing professional.

These stats are according to Brandwatch:

  • Over 400 million users are on Instagram
  • 60% of IG users login daily
  • 30% of internet users are on IG
  • 90% of IG users are under 25
  • IG has doubled in the last 2 years
  • 48.8% of brands are on IG and by 2017 that is expected to be 70%

These are just a few of the in your face facts that show we totally need to have our faces and brands on IG!

The fact that there is so much growth there and that big brands are going to Instagram is one of those “success leaves clues” kind of things.

One thing I want to point out is that if you are been using Instagram for marketing for quite some time and you have not changed up your marketing tactics, I am going to guess that you are not getting the kind of results that you want. Am I right? That’s because things on the internet are always changing.

Now, let’s get into the goodies.

success#1 – Set Up Your Account for Success (Themed Account)

You will probably already have a personal account (that’s good!) but we are going to talk about a themed account. This is how you are going to grow a following whether you feel you are follow worthy or not.

Sometimes people get so caught up in, why would someone want to follow me? My life isn’t that exciting! This is where these themed accounts can really help you.

What does it mean when I say themed account? By themed account I just mean that it is on a given topic. You might have an account all around fitness, weight loss, fashion, travel, etc. You post different images that are related to this topic. Simple, right?

One thing to remember is that your photos should look similar so that they all go together.

If you are starting a new account you want to make sure that you get at least 6 photos up right away so that your account is not naked.

Bio – Make sure you write a bio that makes people want to follow you. What are they going to get out of following your account?

If you are about home workouts you could say “Follow for daily workouts you can do from home.” 

Once you have an offer (affiliate link) that you want to promote, you can post that in your bio.

As you are posting photos you can say, for more information on (whatever product or service you are promoting) click the link in my bio.

#2 – Start Getting Targeted Eyeballs to Your Account

This is the part where most people totally drop the ball. They have their account set up and it looks fabulous but no one knows about it. Here are a few different things you can do to get targeted eyeballs on your content.

#1 – Get the momentum going by inviting your current friends to follow your new page. If you have 0 followers, many other people that you want to promote to may find it strange that no one else has followed you.

#2- Find the influencers. Who are the influencers in the space you are promoting in? If you are in fashion, who are the big fashion account holders on instagram?

When you find these people will be able to get inspiration and ideas. Besides for that, you will be able to see who some of the people that are commenting on their photos are. Go and check out their profiles and leave some likes and comments on their pictures that you find interesting. They will naturally come and check out what you are doing.

You may also choose to go through a follow a few interesting accounts. Your hope is that they will follow you back as well. If they don’t follow you back and you don’t want to have a one sided relationship you can use statusbrew.com to go in and see who you are following that is not following you and just unfollow them.

The more that you get out in front of people and network in comments, follow people that you find interesting, post great content, the better.

Your following is an asset. The more targeted followers you have the better. You want to keep them happy by providing massive value.

Using Hashtags

You can use up to 30 hashtags to get targeted followers to see your post. You want to use hashtags that people are actually searching for. You can do some research and see what hashtags top accounts are using or you can google “hashtags (your topic)” and see what list comes up for you.

You want to use 30 hashtags each time as that is the maximum that IG will allow you to use.
